IMN Shiite Mourners Attacked by Nigerian Forces During Ashura Procession

 On Friday, July 28, 2023, a joint task force of security operatives including soldiers and Police attacked the Ashura procession organized by the members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) popularly known as “Shiites” in Abuja and injuring two persons. According to a report, similar procession was held in Lagos , Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, Jos, Bauchi, Gombe, Miduguri, Yobe and other States and went peacefully except in Abuja where a team of security forces opened fire on the members. The procession in Abuja started immediately after the Juma’at congregational Prayer from Banex Plaza and towards the Wuse Market and the mourners were chanting slogans mentioning Imam Hussain (PBUH) before they were suddenly attacked by joint task force.
