A Senior Iraqi Shia cleric; Ayatollah Mohammad Yaqubi underlined the need to promote the teachings and biography of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) by celebrating Eid al-Ghadir. Delivering a sermon on Eid al-Adha earlier this week, the senior cleric said the love of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) is in the heart and soul of Shia Muslims. He said by holding ceremonies on occasions like Eid al-Ghadir and the birth anniversary of the Imams (AS), they try to preserve and spread the teachings of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).

He further noted that Eid al-Adha, or the “Feast of Sacrifice,” which was celebrated earlier this week, is one of the most joyous and blessed occasions for Muslims around the world. Eid al-Adha coincides with the completion of Hajj – the sacred pilgrimage to Mecca – in Saudi Arabia, which is an obligation for every able Muslim once in their lifetime. It falls on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the last and most sacred month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Muslims often fast on the first nine days of this month to seek God’s mercy and blessings.

The event of Ghadir, or Eid al-Ghadir, is celebrated by Shia Muslims around the world every year. It is among important feasts and happy holidays of Shia Muslims, held on the 18th day of Dhul Hijjah in the lunar Hijri calendar. It was the day when, according to reports, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) appointed Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) as his caliph and the Imam after himself following an order from God. This year, Eid al-Ghadir falls on Tuesday, June 25.
