Arbaeen (i.e., the fortieth day) is one of the most important ceremonies in the Shi’ite Muslim calendar. It is observed on Safar 20, to commemorate the 40th day after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad, in 680 AD.
During this occasion, millions of pilgrims from more than 50 countries will gather in Karbala to mark the historical occasion, making it the world’s largest annual human gathering.
This year Arbaeen falls on the Saturday, September 17, 2022 and it will be marked by millions of Muslims across the world at Karbala, while there will be processions and religious services in Shia Muslim mosques across the Islamic world.
